Mandala Three: Fearful Symmetry
Ink on Cardboard
36"x36"
September 2008 - February 2009

Based on Dante's Inferno

The nine circles of Dantes hell are divided into 24 concentric circles, each depicting some sin and its poetically just punishment (from 14th century standards, at least). For more details of the bizarre experiences that occurred over the six months I was working on this and lots of closeups, check out

This is my favorite of your piece wanderweird. There's a lto of skill in the detail and symmetry here. Seriously, props man!

most definitely. especially when i was working on this, the weird coincidences just seemed to explode. i'm not sure if i'm perceiving all of these connections with numbers, or projecting them by looking for them constantly. But when i convince myself that it's all in my head, then everything just gets weirder, as though something is trying to convince me...

i'm reminded of the Discordian Law of Fives: Everything is relatable to the number 5, given enough creativity by the interpreter.

thanks, this is actually one of the first mandalas i ever did. i love to draw sunshine and rainbows, but monsters live in my head as well.

and now i've trapped them into a piece of cardboard. yay!
